Computer Science
Welcome to Computer Science
Welcome to A Level Computer Science. This course builds on the foundations you developed at GCSE and takes them significantly further, both in depth and independence. Computer Science is not just about using computers; it is about understanding how they work, solving complex problems, and designing intelligent systems. As outlined in the OCR specification, you will develop skills in computational thinking, programming in C#, and analysing real-world problems, alongside key concepts such as abstraction, algorithms, and data representation . The transition from Year 11 to Year 12 is an important step, and this summer work is designed to help you begin that journey with confidence.
The work introduces you to the key themes of the course, including computer systems, programming, and the wider impact of technology on society. You will explore topics such as CPU architecture, data representation, and emerging technologies, while also developing essential skills like independent research and effective note-taking. At A Level, there is a much greater emphasis on thinking for yourself, applying knowledge in unfamiliar contexts, and working through problems in a structured and logical way . This preparation will ensure you are ready to engage with the more challenging content and expectations of the course from your very first lesson.
Have a lovely Summer and we look forward to seeing you in September!
