It blends research, aesthetics, functionality, and usability to guide a product from concept through development to final market launch. Key aspects include empathising with users, prototyping, testing, and balancing business goals with user experience.

The design economy contributes £97.4 billion in Gross Value Added (GVA) annually to the UK economy. It supports nearly 2 million jobs (1.97 million) and plays a key role in boosting exports, representing a critical, high-growth sector that is heavily integrated into manufacturing, digital, and creative industries.
Key Stages in the Product Design Process
- Research: Gathering data on user needs and market gaps.
- Ideation & Strategy: Brainstorming solutions and defining the product vision.
- Prototyping: Creating tangible models or mockups for testing.
- Testing & Validation: Using feedback to refine the product.
- Implementation/Manufacturing: Bringing the product to market.
