Child Development
Year 10
Students study the following topics across 5 lessons per fortnight:
Unit R018: Health and well-being for child development
Understand reproduction and the roles and responsibilities of parenthood |
Understand postnatal checks, postnatal provision and conditions for development |
Know about child safety |
Unit R019: Understand the equipment and nutritional needs of children from birth to five years
Understand key factors when choosing equipment for babies from birth to 12 months |
Understand key factors when choosing equipment for babies from one to five years |
Know the nutritional guidelines and requirements for children from birth to five years |
Be able to investigate and develop feeding solutions for children from birth to five years |
ILT
Students are set ILT on a weekly basis. This includes completing independent research about the different units as well as completing tasks that are relevant for coursework preparation. Students are given an end of unit assessment after the completion of each Learning Objective from R018
Assessment
Unit R018: Health and well-being for child development.
This unit will be assessed through a 1 hour and 15 minutes examination in year 11
Unit R019: Understand the equipment and nutritional needs of children from birth to five years. This unit will be assessed through coursework in year 10
Year 11

Understand how to recognise, manage and prevent childhood illness |
Unit R020: Understand the development of a child from birth to five years
Understand the physical, intellectual and social development norms from birth to five years |
Understand the benefits of learning through play |
Be able to plan different activities for a chosen developmental area with a child from birth to five years |
Be able to carry out and evaluate different play activities for a chosen developmental area with a child from birth to five years |
