Our lovely purpose-built Library Resource Centre (LRC) is a lovely space to come and work or read in during lesson time or break times. Our resource collection includes books, eBooks, magazines, newspapers and websites (updated monthly), also Chromebooks and tablets. The LRC supervises the computer room (ICT2), next door, before school and during all break times. We also have Shelf Help, the Reading Well mental health book collection which has been chosen by young people and health experts.
We offer a wide range of quality resources to support the curriculum and also a wide range of recreational reading, both fiction and non-fiction — with many brand-new titles and authors, as well as older favourites. Whether a keen reader, a reluctant reader, or a struggling reader, our LRC has lots to offer students in finding information or reading for pleasure. Many titles fit with the Accelerated Reader scheme used by the English department and have quizzes available: it is easy for students to see what level books are when they are choosing their reading either off the shelves or on Oliver (the LRC's catalogue software).
Oliver brings all resources together and is available for student (and staff) access online either via the Intranet in school or at home via Dene Magna's website. Accelerated Reader is also fully integrated with our stock, as is our Wheelers eBook collection.
All KS3 students have a regular timetabled library session, however, the LRC is available to all throughout the day.
